Overview
Predictive Patching is a mechanism that constantly runs in the background of your environment, looking for technical reasons why your patch cycle may not be successful.
Before deploying your actual patch cycle, you can receive a comprehensive analysis detailing your expected success rate as well as the areas of improvement that should be addressed to enhance the patching cycle’s success.
Navigate to Patches → Predictive Patching → Run.
Tip: It is highly recommended to run Predictive Patching before every patch cycle to ensure your environment is technically ready.
Predictive Patching Options
JetPatch can predict the success rate using one of the following options:
-
Environment Prediction – Prediction is made on Operating Systems and/or Endpoint Groups. This considers the current moment (i.e., “what would happen if I ran a Remediation Plan NOW”). Not filtering on anything will run Predictive Patching on your entire environment.
Remediation Plan Prediction – Prediction is made on an existing Remediation Plan, considering the Cycle Start Date and End Date. This accounts for the Remediation Plan properties, including:- Endpoint Groups
- Endpoints Maintenance Windows
- Patches
- Patch actions
Running Predictive Patching
There are two ways to launch Predictive Patching:
From the Predictive Patching Page
- Go to Patches → Predictive Patching.
- Select the Environment tab to run the prediction on Operating Systems and/or Endpoint Groups, or switch to the Remediation Plans tab to filter on any upcoming plans.
- Click Run to execute the simulation.
From the Remediation Plans Board
- Navigate to the Remediation Plans board.
- Select the Predictive Patching icon on the plan itself.
- JetPatch will automatically bring you to the Predictive Patching page and simulate that plan.
Tip: Running Predictive Patching directly from a Remediation Plan is highly recommended before activating the plan, to verify all endpoints are ready.
Predictive Patching Results
After running the simulation, the results page displays the following information:
- Your predicted patching success rate.
- The number of applicable endpoints involved in the prediction calculation.
- The number of applicable patches involved in the prediction calculation.
- The number of endpoints that require attention, which has a direct impact on the success rate.
The detailed breakdown is also scoped by:
- Operating System
- Smart Groups
Note: You can narrow the results by filtering on a specific Endpoint Group. For example, running Predictive Patching on Group B will show only the readiness of machines in that group, giving you a focused view of your patching readiness.
How To Improve
By clicking on the 'How to Improve' button, you will see a complete report on the endpoint that requires your attention and its exemptions.
Reports
Reports can be downloaded by clicking the Download Reports icon at the top right of the page. If you have filtered the page, the report will reflect your filtered environment.
Predictive Patching Results Page
- Predictive Patching General Report – The “Information Analysis” is calculated at the top of the page.
- Detailed Data By Operating System – The “Detailed Data By Operating System” table.
- Detailed Data By Endpoint Group – The “Detailed Data By Endpoint Group” table.
