The Puppet and JetPatch technologies provide different areas of focus:
- The focus of Puppet is on the installation and configuration of servers and application components such as web servers, middleware, databases, and more. This makes it popular with developers who want more control over the infrastructure environments that are supporting their applications. Puppet, though, was not designed to effectively manage the ongoing lifecycle and maintenance of agent-based and agentless tools that are typically added to servers to provide back-up, security, monitoring and other critical services.
- The integration of Puppet with JetPatch supplies this missing piece.
- For enterprises that use other server configuration management tools, such as Chef, a similar approach can be used to integrate JetPatch, through its REST API.
